The ChristChurch Cathedral Choir Tour - Fundraising Events

Mrs Nicky Oram —

With less than 8 weeks before our 15 choristers depart on their tour to Australia and Japan, we asked the boys what they are most looking forward to on their trip abroad. Here is what they said…

“It’ll be fun singing in a big stone Cathedral with a huge echo” - Sea-Am
"Going on a plane for a long time and exploring Japan" - Albert
“I can't wait to go on those fast bullet trains through Japan and I can't wait to take amazing pictures of Japanese stuff" - Oliver
“Spending time with my friends and the flights!  - Angus
"I am looking forward to visiting Disneyland and eating sushi… lots of sushi!" - Spencer
"I'm really looking forward to going on a bullet train and experiencing Japanese culture" - William

Chris Oldham - Verger of The ChristChurch Transitional Cathedral
When asked what I look forward to most about taking the Cathedral Choristers on tour, it’s the experience of travelling and singing together overseas. This is one the boys will remember and talk about for a very long time. The Choristers, like any team, will find it hugely beneficial to experience not only the acoustic of some very large Cathedrals in Australia, but also to experience Japanese culture and all that entails. Of course, more than anything else, it will be fun!”

John Linker - Director of Music of The ChristChurch Transitional Cathedral
When asked what I look forward to most about taking the Cathedral Choristers on tour, I must say it is the anticipation of seeing how they return transformed. Having had the pleasure of taking choirs on several international tours, perhaps the most tangible benefit has been any given group's sense of teamwork both on tour and when they return home. Our Choristers will have musical, cultural, and social experiences on this tour that will stay with them for the rest of their lives, and this experience will help form them to be better informed and more well-rounded contributors to society.

The purpose of this tour is to promote the ChristChurch Cathedral Choir and provide the Choristers with the experience of singing in a variety of international settings and venues. To experience other cultures. The tour involves 15 of our Cathedral Grammar students from Years 5-8.
