2021 Head Boy and Head Girl of The Cathedral Grammar School

Mrs Nicky Oram —

Introducing Head Boy, Mun Chi Jager and Head Girl, Millie Vink.

Mun Chi Jager:

What excites you most about your role?
I am excited at the opportunity to help others in every way possible.

Are there any initiatives that you would like to implement this year? If so, tell us about them.

  1. I would like Year 7's to spend more time with their Junior School buddies.
  2. I would like it to be encouraged to join Kapa Haka for Year 5 and up.
  3. If this year, we continue with the BOSS birthday dollars initiative in chapel, there could be a wider variety of charities to spend your birthday dollars on supporting.
  4. I would like to implement a student suggestion box.

What do you like most about The Cathedral Grammar School?
The friendliness of the staff and students. The Cathdedral Grammar School; we really are like a family.

Who do you admire and why?
Jacinda Ardern because she is a great leader and even through tough times she led our country for all of us.

What is your favourite song?
I Shot the Sheriff - Bob Marley

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to draw, swim when I get the chance, go to the beach and play my bass.

If you were stranded on an Island and could have only one Cathedral Grammar staff member with you, who would it be and why?
It would be Mr Lean-Massey because we would keep each other entertained and we would definitely be able to find a way out of the island by working together.

Millie Vink:

What excites you most about your role?
I am excited to work with staff, students and parents more closely. I am excited to share ideas and help with positive changes. I'm excited to be a role model for the younger students and I'm just excited to give everything a go.

Are there any initiatives that you would like to implement this year? If so, tell us about them.

  1. I would love to update our school website with new photos of the current students that are at TCGS.
  2.  I would like to try and progress Albertine and my Uniform Project and make some action towards this.
  3. I would like to start my, 'caught in the act award'.
  4.  I had an idea that we get in touch with a school in England because they are going into their third lockdown. It would be great if we got in touch and asked them how they are feeling about that. We could write to a student at a school get to know them and we would ask anyone at school if they would like a pen pal or an email pal.

What do you like most about The Cathedral Grammar School?
I like our small classes because it means I have lots of one on one time to develop my learning and create strategies with teachers to improve my learning. I also love our family-like feel, when you're new you may step in a stranger but by the end of the day you will be a part of our family.

Who do you admire and why?
I admire Kate Sheppard because she helped fight for women's rights, for example she was one of the women that helped get women the right to vote. I also admire Jacinda Ardern because she's making such a difference to New Zealand's COVID-19 problems and working towards a more peaceful world. I admire anyone who wakes up in the morning and they make a small difference to the world by being themselves. I admire my Grandma who fought through her cancer and was so brave and taught me to keep fighting. I admire many people; writers, song writers, actors, and every day people because they always bring something new to the world and challenge the way we think.

What is your favourite song?
My current favourite song is Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something. My favourite songs change a-lot.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to read, write, play with my little brother, watch a bit of Netflix, hang out with my friends, have discussions/debates with my parents, go for a swim, play tennis, play hockey, listen to music and acting.

If you were stranded on an Island and could have only one Cathedral Grammar staff member with you, who would it be and why?
I dislike singling people out because it just not a nice thing, but if I had to pick a teacher it would be Mr Larsen because he is really kind and understands me as a person and how I learn. If he couldn't make it, I would say Mrs Lowe because she also really understands who I am and how I learn.
