Cup day comes to Pre-School

Miss Libby Avery —

It is the race that stops the Pre-School - the annual Pre-School Cup Day horse race.

The fun race hit the ground running on Tuesday 12th of November at 11am on the school Astro turf. With our sturdy wood horses in tow, our super fantastic hats and beautiful hairdos, each Pre-Schooler galloped down the astro turf and back to an almighty cheer from their peers at the finish line.

A great amount of fun was had by all and after their super hard work, the preschool horses returned back to the preschool stables for a big feed of oats,  while the tamariki enjoyed a well-deserved big glass of water.

Being able to link our learning with community events is a great way to make learning fun.  Many children knew about the the Melbourne cup and the A&P Show, so it seemed only natural to expand on the children's interests.  The creatively decorated hats added to the excitement.  All areas of the curriculum were covered in this fun horse race - mathematical concepts (distance and speed), literacy (naming and writing our horses names), Gross motor skills (running down the race track) but most importantly, the children's well being and sense of belonging was at the heart of the learning outcomes.
