Cell Phones and Smart Watches at School

With an increase in education outside the classroom and extra curricular activities over the past few weeks, we have seen a number of students using their cell phones and smart watches to communicate with their parents. This has included during break times and between classes.

While it is understandable that there will be times when communication between student and parent is necessary, this needs to be done through the office. In an exceptional circumstance, permission from a staff member must first be obtained before using a cell phone.

If your child brings a cell phone to school or takes it on any school activities, it is to be switched off and stored in their school bag. If your child wears a smart watch at school, notifications are to be disabled. Your child may use their cell phone to communicate with home after school.

If a cell phone is used other than the above, it will be held by the Assistant Principal or Deputy Principal until such time as it is collected by the parent of the student concerned.

I am happy to discuss this matter further and can be contacted by email at bertiel@cathedralgrammar.school.nz or phone 03 365 0385. Thank you for your ongoing support of The Cathedral Grammar School.
