Junior School

Mrs Fiona Lill —

Pet Mania in Junior School

We have had a wonderful few weeks to begin Term 4 with children and teachers returning from holiday full of enthusiasm and energy!

We would like to welcome three new children to our Junior School. Jack, Nate and Orson all started in Miss Forrest's class and look like they have settled in superbly well,  thanks to our wonderful Miss Forrest.

We would also like to welcome Mrs. Jo Gill in J1W for Term 4! Mrs Gill is not new to Cathedral Grammar, as she taught in the Girls’ School for many years before leaving to teach at other schools in Christchurch. We are so very lucky to have her back for Term 4 - her experience and caring nature has made the transition so very easy.

Over the past few weeks, we have been talking about gratitude and how our lives are full of things that we can be grateful for, no matter how small. It has been wonderful to hear how the children have embraced this concept and are identifying many things in their lives they can be grateful for. We discuss these ideas as part of our school wide focus on growth mindset and well being.

May I please remind everyone that we are a nut free school and not just peanut free. It is important for us all to be vigilant in keeping our children safe, and we really appreciate your support in this.

This terms focus in the Junior School is Mammals and Pets, with the ever famous Pet Day happening in Week 5. On Friday, I sent out the information for both Pet Day and our Willowbank trip on Monday 12 November, so if you haven’t received the letter please check with us.

There are a few other trips and events organised and I have listed them below.

Week 4

Thursday 8 November - J2 and 3 Museum visit and

Photography exhibit.

Friday 9 November - Therapy dog visit to Junior School

Week 5

Monday 12 November - All Junior School Willowbank visit by bus

Wednesday 14 November - Pet Day

Show Weekend Thursday 15 November - Sunday 18 November

This week’s assembly is a Musical performers assembly for children who learn instruments outside of the school. There is no assembly next week due to Show Weekend. Remember to check out the Art Exhibition! This is in the Specialist Hall all week and is always amazing! I always feel truly blessed when I look around the whole school and see all the amazing things our children are performing, learning, presenting, competing and sharing.

Ngā mihi nui (with kind regards)
