Girls' & Boys' Prep Schools

Ms Brigit McCormack & Mr Simon Lean-Massey —

Embracing Opportunities in the Prep School.

The final week of term is upon us and we can reflect upon a very busy and eventful term. We congratulate all students who have embraced the multitude of opportunities on offer to them in the Prep School this term.

Over the last couple of weeks our musicians and performers have been lucky enough to have the chance to perform in the Music Competition and on stage at the Piano as part of the High Performers evenings. We thank Mrs Lowe for making that happen.

It is not in only in the arts and music that we have shined in the past week. Our Chess teams represented our school admirably at the Canterbury Schools’ Chess Tournament. The Y7/8 team just missed out on going through to the national competition by one game.

Our budding scientists competed in the semi-finals of the EPro8 competition, finishing a very respectable fourth, and just missing out on representing Canterbury. Our Cross-country runners excelled in the Canterbury Championships with some very impressive performances including Una (Y8) winning her category, Jasmine (Y6) qualifying for a place in the Inter-regional team and Lucy (Y7) Ella, Nicole and James (Y8) qualifying to run in the Intermediate race on Wednesday for a place in the regional team. The Inter-Regional Cross-country Championships takes place in Nelson in September.

To cap off a very busy week we had three teams compete in the Canterbury Primary School's Jump Jam competition in Rolleston. This was the first time we have competed in this competition and the students are to be congratulated for all their energy and enthusiasm on stage.

Well done to all our fabulous students who have embraced the opportunities on offer to them. We thank them for representing our school so well and thank their parents for all their encouragement and support.

This week sees the finals of the Speech Competition. We wish all finalists well in this competition. A special mention to Mrs Hubers for all her organisation in this event.

The Y7&8 boys will be presenting their science projects to classes this week. Students and parents will be able to view the exhibits on Wednesday and Thursday upstairs in the Specialist Block.

We thank all parents for supporting the school and their children in all their endeavours this term. We hope that you all have a peaceful break.
