Kindness
Our intentional focus is around supporting friendships with each other at Pre-School. For tamariki, navigating the social world of having friends and being a friend takes plenty of practice.
Being able to initiate social interactions with peers is a key skill in developing social competence. We help children to learn this by modelling how to initiate and respond to social invitations in play. Kindness and empathy are the key to this success.
Our 'kindness tree' is another way our yoga teacher has supported our kindness focus. Recognising behaviours that exemplify manaakitanga (kindness and generosity) will see the tree blossom in love hearts.
Today we walked to see HAROLD in his van. With his lovely long eyelashes and demure approach, the children were captivated. Kerri shared with us concepts around emotions and kindness. We look forward to another visit next Monday - perhaps he might have another good joke or song for us to enjoy.
We loved having a visit from J1F last Friday. Teaching them one of our favourite action songs "Tofa Tafa", put a smile on everyone's face. Being able to connect with our wider school whanau is always a highlight for us.
Pre-School is a busy and happy place with lots of laughter and learning. Today I asked a preschooler what they wanted to learn at Pre-School..."nothing - I know everything!" Oh, to have the confidence of a four year old!
Please feel free to pop in anytime. I can assure you of good conversation and fun from our chatty and competent preschoolers.
