Aroha mai, aroha atu~
This saying means, 'love towards us and love going out from us'. It is a very apt way to describe the Pre-school at the moment. Hearts are very symbolic for us at Pre-school. We teach with heart and in return the children share their joy of learning with us. How lucky are we to have such a wonderful job. In their specialist art class recently, our older tamariki set about creating some amazing 'heart' pictures. These take pride of place on our wall. Continuing on from their interest, more hearts have been added to the display. We are really seeing some growing confidence in the way children are using the art materials and resources at Pre-school.
Over the past few weeks, our priority has been providing calmness, consistency and continuity, taking into account each child's knowledge of recent events.
The first strand of our Early Childhood Curriculum is 'Wellbeing'. It seems very apt to be focussing on this part of our holistic curriculum to support tamariki to manage their feelings and emotions. Some children have needed an extra cuddle and a story, for others their feelings may have been represented in their play, either way, all valid learning processes. It has been heartening to see children carry on as usual, having fun, laughing and playing with friends, the joy of childhood evident and audible. If you have friends or family with young children and they are looking for a Pre-school with heart, we would love to show them our unique and special place.
