From The Principal's Desk

Mr Scott Thelning —

Term 4 is here!

Kia ora ki te whanau o te Cathedral Grammar School

Welcome back to Term 4 and a very special welcome to:

  • Nate M - Yr 1 (graduated from our Pre-School)
  • Jack P  - Yr 1 (graduated from our Pre-School)
  • Orson Y - Yr 1
  • Carlos M - Yr 4
  • Emmanuel M - Yr 5
  • Thomas S - Yr 7

Nate and Jack have been a part of our school community for some time now, but it is fantastic to welcome them into the school side of the Pre-School fence, and it is wonderful to introduce four new families into The Cathedral Grammar School community.

RoboCup National Champions! As reported earlier, our RoboCup team of Sam, Conor, Rian and Cameron placed second at the Regional Championships, which secured them a spot in the National Championships in Dunedin towards the end of last term. They won the Junior Theatre section! This was the first time our school had entered this competition and to achieve first place was outstanding.

Congratulations boys and super coach Steph - we are so very proud of you all.

As we all know, Term 4 comes with a busy calendar for us all. Please ensure you have all the key dates for events, outings, services, dinners, prizegivings etc loaded into your organisation system. The best way to do this is by keeping a regular eye on the calendar on our recently launched app. To be able to see the events on the calendar in the app you must be logged in (bottom left button on the homepage). If you do not sign in, you will not see anything. Once you sign in and click on the calendar button, you will be able to see all events that are school wide and all events that relate only to your child's year level/class.

If you are having log in issues please contact Lynda Harrington in the office.

Grammar Notes will have the key dates for the 2 weeks ahead listed in the left-hand side menu under In This Issue.

Thank you for the positive feedback about the app. The purpose is to provide a tool that supports improving communication and connection between our school and our community, and it has been pleasing to hear from some of you that the app has helped in this area. We will use the app increasingly over time and already have suggestions for the developers for enhancements and additions. If you have ideas and feedback please send these to Lynda also.  We also ask that you bear with us while we get through some of the "kinks"

Thank you to the Junior School parents who attended Mrs Whalley's Farewell at the end of last term. It was a lovely occasion and a very fitting way to acknowledge her contributions to our school and your children. Great job Junior School staff!

Congratulations to Lachlan McVicar for his selection in the South Island Primary Schools Rugby Team. This was a result of his quality performances for Canterbury Country at the South Island Tournament held over the holidays.

Finally, we wish for our uniform standards to remain high throughout the remaining weeks of this year. We have discussed this as a leadership team and would like to finish the year as we began. This  includes full tracksuits when required and sports socks with PE uniform. We would appreciate it if you can have a conversation about this at home. It is important that children leave home wearing the uniform correctly,  and that they have all of the required sports uniform.

Thank you for your support.
