Pre-School

Ms Libby Avery —

WOW - What a busy term!

It is hard to believe that Term I is nearly finished! Pre-School started on Monday 15 January and it certainly has been a busy twelve weeks!  Pre-School remains open during the April school holidays, and there are plenty of exciting activities happening.

This term we welcomed ten new children to Pre-School.  They have all settled into our programme and we feel like they have always been here.  In Term II we are looking forward to several new children and families arriving.

Term I saw the children swimming at Aqua Gym, singing at the Prep School assembly,  PE, yoga, art and music lessons each week, and taking part and leading the play-based programme that The Cathedral Grammar Pre-School operates.

Next term we start our weekly gymnastics programme at the Christchurch School of Gymnastics. Each Wednesday, ten children will travel by school minibus and take part in the gymnastics programme to support and increase gross motor skills. This was very popular last year so we will also continue going during Term III.  Please note that children enrolled on a Wednesday will need to be at Pre-School by 9.00am to ensure we can start our lesson at 9.30am.

The Wheel-a-thon will take place on Thursday 17 May, and the children have prepared their wish list.  The Wheel-a-thon enables our children to gain an understanding about working for things that they would like.  Often children think that 'money grows on trees', however the Wheel-a-thon enables the children and teachers to discuss the value of work.  Last year was a huge success and we cannot wait to speed around Chester Street on decorated bikes again in 2018.  Sponsorship forms are in the children's lockers.

During Term II we will be welcoming several visitors to our Pre-School.  We are looking forward to Harry's aunty performing again with her percussion instruments. We know the Pre-School and Junior School children will thoroughly enjoy engaging in this music experience.

Please remember the weather is starting to get cooler and to ensure that all children are dressed appropriately and have spare clothes in their bags.

For those heading away for the term break, please enjoy your family time, travel safe and we look forward to seeing everyone back at the start of Term II - Monday 29 April.
