Kids in Town Concert Last Week

The 81 pupils who comprise the Orchestra and the Boys’ and Girls’ Chapel Choirs performed last Thursday as part of the City Council’s lunchtime Kids in Town concert series. What a joyful sound and sight to behold as our children filled the Art Gallery atrium, both literally and musically. Their fabulous playing and singing were glorious in such a magnificent space.

Congratulations to Mrs Currie, Mr Meehan, the itinerant music staff and the pupils on such a wonderful demonstration of Grammar’s unparalleled Music programme.

Craighead Exchange

This annual exchange for our Y7&8 girls was held last Monday and Tuesday. Despite the weather causing some reshuffling of events, a wonderful two days of activities were held. Competition took place in Debating, Hockey, Netball, Basketball and Tennis, whilst members of both choirs also had the opportunity to sing together.

Results were as follows:

Debating
That the Christ Church Cathedral should be re-built - Grammar
That Te Reo Maori should be compulsory in all schools - Craighead

Hockey - Grammar
Netball A - Grammar
Netball B - Craighead
Basketball - Grammar
Tennis - Grammar

Thank you to those many families who billeted the Craighead girls. We are most grateful for your support to allow such exchanges to happen. These experiences are great opportunities for meet new people, and sometimes longer lasting friendships grow. One of our girls has been invited to stay with her billet in Timaru in the next holidays, when she visits her grandparents!

Canterbury Primary and Intermediate Ski Races

These races were held at Mt Cheeseman on Sunday. Congratulations to our twelve skiers who competed in dual slalom in teams of four for both individual and team awards. This is a fun event with a skill level required to ski the groomed slopes and ride the T-bar. The Independent Schools’ Ski Race is to be held at Porter Heights’ Ski Field on Wednesday, 30 August.

We wish our bands in Bandquest tonight and our Cantamath teams tomorrow night the very best of luck.
