Pre-School

Ms Libby Avery —

Week IV and V at Pre-School have been very busy indeed.

Well, we are at the halfway point of Term IV 2017.  I think I say it every year: "Where has the year gone?"  Over the last few weeks we have been revisiting and reflecting on all the activities and wonderful learning the children at The Cathedral Grammar Pre-School have done throughout 2017.  The Wheelathon and the rubbish truck visit seem to be at the top of list, as well as the potato-and-spoon race at Athletics' Day and our trips to Bunnings to buy new plants for the vegetable garden.

The year isn't over yet and Pre-School still has Swimming Lessons' Week in December, Pre-School Nativity play, End-of-year Graduations for five of the tamariki and the School Leavers' Service - and then, of course, CHRISTMAS, the time when we all get to spend time with our family and friends.

Last week was Melbourne Cup day and the children enjoyed making and decorating their hats, ready for fashion in the field.  We held our own horse race and galloped across the astroturf, which the other staff and Prep children thought looked great fun!

A group of children also visited Bunnings to chose some summer vegetables to plant in our vegetable garden.  They were able to decorate a biodegradable pot and plant lettuce into it.  On our return to Pre-School, the lettuces were all planted into the garden alongside our other plants.  Sadly, there has been a hungry bug visiting our garden in the evenings and the lettuces are looking less than ideal.

A few weeks ago, Pre-School was able to participate with the Junior School to learn about what police dogs and their handlers do.  We were able to pat Emmett the police puppy-in-training and watch Constable Reuben Whalley do some tricks with his dog.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the annual Junior School Pet Day to which Pre-School is invited to look over all the creations made by the Junior School.  This year, they are making paper plate creations - and not wanting to be outdone the Pre-Schoolers decided to make an underwater scene with paper plate jellyfish and sharks.

A reminder that, like the school, the Pre-School will be closed on Thursday and Friday to celebrate Canterbury Anniversary Day.  If you are going to the A&P Show have a great time.  We have been reminding the children about always staying with an a family member when out and about to keep ourselves safe.
