Independent Zones Swimming Success

Ms Brigit McCormack —

Well done to our swimming squad who competed at the Independent Zone Swimming Championships last Friday.

The event was held at a very packed and noisy Wharenui Pool. Many of our swimmers swam well enough in their heats to get through to the finals.

The finals were very competitive with the first two swimmers gaining a place to compete at the Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Championships at Selwyn Pool on Thursday 5 April. We are still waiting for final confirmation from the Zone organisers, but we are confident that six Cathedral Grammar pupils will swim at this event.

The most exciting race of the day by far was the Y8 mixed relay race. It was a thrilling finale to the day and despite a superb effort by Daniel Bridgman on the final leg, he couldn't quite catch up to the St Andrew's College team, who finished first - but only just by a touch!

Congratulations to all of our swimmers with a big thank you to Mrs Kate Lovatt and Mrs Tessa Ferguson who helped manage the team on the poolside, and to all the parents who assisted with transport.
