Mr Scott Thelning —

Tena koutou ki te whanau o Cathedral Grammar

Thank you to those of you who were able to visit our amazing Art Exhibition last week. I am sure you will agree that what our pupils produce is simply stunning, and to have it displayed so professionally highlights the importance we place on their efforts and skills. Mrs Gray and Mrs Edmond, once again, are to be applauded for their outstanding work in producing this for our community.

I have informed you that as a part of one our strategic goals we have engaged with Plato Creative in relation to our branding and marketing, and have now met with them twice to support them in deepening their understanding of our school.  As a part of this initial work I am discussing with them the possibility of creating a visual representation of our Vision, Values and Strategy. I am conscious of the balance between them wishing to progress through their work in a connected manner that aligns to their processes, and me wishing to get this visually in and out around our school. I hope to have something for you soon.

As a reminder, our four strategic goals for 2020 are:

1. To have a strongly connected and engaged staff, school and community on our journey.

2. To have implemented an evolving and adaptive curriculum, with a review cycle.

3. To have implemented key projects of a prioritized facility enhancement programme.

4. To be widely known as Canterbury’s premier primary education experience.

To guide us through to these, our goals for May 2018 are:

1. All staff and parents understand and align with the change journey.

2. To have a preferred future focused curriculum model, a common framework and teaching methodology in outline to support it.

3. Facility upgrade programme and business case has been approved by the Board and the first project initiated.

4. To have implemented and reviewed a marketing strategy and plan.

I can now inform you that Warren and Mahoney have been appointed by the Board as the architect for our next new facility and work with them has begun. It is exciting to get this project underway.

Applications for the staff vacancies closed on Friday and I am pleased with the quantity and quality of the applicants. We have attracted people from overseas, from across New Zealand and Christchurch, from primary and secondary schools, and from independent, state and international schools. I will communicate with you further when I can.

Have a great fortnight.

Scott.
