Police Dog Handler, Senior Constable Reuben Whalley Visits the Junior School

On Tuesday 31 October Constable Reuben came to visit the Junior School as part of our Animal Studies topic. Constable Reuben talked to children about his job and specifically how the police dog helps him. He also talked about how important it is to look after the police dog and some of the most important things to remember when caring for a pet. Finally he spoke about dog safety and vital tips for people facing fierce dogs. He also reminded children about basic safety rules of behaviour around all dogs, particularly dogs they don't know.

SPCA Visit

On Tuesday 7 November, Richard from the SPCA came to talk to the children about pet care. He bought in some very special friends with him: guinea pigs and a retired greyhound called Bugsy. The children listened carefully and took a lot of important messages on board regarding the huge responsibility we have when we have a pet at home.

He also taught the children about the five vital elements of pet care:

  • Love
  • Toys and exercise
  • Vet care
  • Food
  • Water
