Prep School Opportunities Leads to Success

Ms Brigit McCormack —

As always, it is a hive of activity in the Prep Schools.

We welcomed two bands from Christ's College who had recently competed at the Regional Finals of the Smokefree Rockfest competition. They impressed us all with their compositions and musicianship. It was wonderful to spot three Grammarians among the line up. Lovely to see them continuing to excel and enjoy their music. One of the bands The Subs, have made it through to National final of the Rockfest Competition in Auckland next month. We wish them well!

A number of students have been involved in a range of  competitions over the last week. Congratulations to our RoboCup team of Rian, Connor, Cameron and Sam who placed 2nd in the Canterbury Regionals. They now prepare for the Nationals in September.

Our Skiers did us proud last weekend with three students , Joy, Luke and Molly gaining 1st place in large fields for the Canterbury Primary and Intermediate Ski Races at Mt Cheeseman. A 12 strong ski-team go off this week to the Independent Ski Championships.

Our senior mathematicians competed in the highly competitive Cantamaths Competition last week at Horncastle Arena. Although they did not get a place, they were certainly competitive and the students are to be congratulated for their performance.

The Girls’ Chapel Choir had the opportunity to sing with the men of the Cathedral Choir at Evensong last Thursday. As usual,  the quality of the singing was extremely impressive. Thank you to Harry Meehan, for preparing and conducting the girls. They are so lucky to have such a talented musician and mentor.

Last Friday saw the last day of competitions for the Canterbury Primary Schools Winter Competition.  Congratulations to all students who competed for Grammar so graciously in hockey, netball, football and table tennis. We now look forward to some House Sports and the Xtend options for all our Year 4-8 students.

The 7G girls have been busy making shoe sculptures from stilettos. These will be on display at the Art Exhibition in Week 4,  next term.

The Operetta, of course, takes centre stage for the next 2 weeks. The teachers continue to be impressed with the energy and enthusiasm the students bring to the rehearsals. If you have not yet bought your ticket, buy it now!
