New Head of Pre-School

Mr Scott Thelning —

Introducing Rachel Allan.

Kia ora, ko Rachel ahau

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.

What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

I am excited to be the new Head of The Cathedral Grammar Pre-School, leading an experienced team of educators and working together with tamariki and their family as they pursue the pathway of excellence .

I have worked within the early childcare education sector for over 30 years and have been a centre manager for eleven years. I initially studied as a Primary School teacher, but realised after having my own children, the under-five age group was where my passion lay. I then completed a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning in ECE.

As a former parent at The Cathedral Grammar School, I have an in-depth understanding of the school values and vision, and as well the Anglican Faith which underpins those values and visions. My focus will be to ensure that the continuing high standards of Early Education and care are maintained, by creating intentional, positive, warm and nurturing learning spaces for young children, and supporting teachers to grow, learn and evolve.

I have a strong interest in Music, Art and Social-Emotional Competence of young children. I am dedicated to providing planned literacy and numeracy experiences for under fives, in order to ensure they are well prepared for the next step in their learning journey. It is important to balance intentional learning time with a young child’s natural urge to play, discover and create, and recognise the need for periods of uninterrupted, un-structured play time as well to support this.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to work together with the Junior School educators, and look forward to strengthening our pathways to school programme together.

I very much look forward to connecting with you and your child soon.
