Pre-school Holiday Scavenger Hunt
With the weather being rather wet and cold on Tuesday, the Pre-School had an inside scavenger hunt as part of their school holiday program.
Early in the morning while the tamariki (children) were blissfully unaware, Mr Aaron strategically placed around the Pre-School, some different pictures of the children’s favourite cartoon and book characters. Before lunchtime, all the children came together in a big circle to hear about the scavenger hunt, and to get a checklist to tick off what they could find along the way.
After the tamariki had learned what they would be looking for, the excitement was palpable to begin the scavenger hunt. Once the okay was given the tamariki were off, some in pairs and others in bigger groups, investigating and exploring the Pre-School.
The joy of discovery is universal. There is nothing like solving a mystery, cracking puzzles and throwing knowledge upon the unknown. It is a fundamental drive for a lot of us. Such activities like a scavenger hunt, treasure hunt and nature hunt offer great opportunities for social interaction with peers, exploration, teamwork and the development of logical thinking skills for tamariki. Learning to work as a team and achieve a common goal is a wonderful concept to appreciate and understand as a learner.
The tamariki really enjoyed their journey getting around the Pre-School, exploring, and using their powers of deduction to find the hidden characters.
