Science Alive visits the Junior School

As part of our Kitchen Chemistry Unit, the Junior School children became scientists when Science Alive visited on Friday 8 and Monday 11 September. The Y1&2 children carried out experiments around water. They studied concepts such as evaporation, freezing and melting, the effect erosion has on our land, objects that float and sink, and density. The Y3 children investigated and solved a mystery using science.  They learned about different chemicals and the reactions that occur when mixed together.

Y3 children have fun with science in the science lab
On Thursday 14 September, the Y3 children visited the science lab in the Specialist Block. They were joined by Mr Armstrong who kindly took them through some science experiments which involved very exciting chemicals and  chemical reactions. This followed nicely on from the Science Alive lesson.

Making Poi with the Y8 Girls
Also on Thursday 14 September, each Junior School pupil made a set of poi. They worked together in small groups in our hall with the Y8 girls helping. The children will now learn how to use their poi as part of waiata during Kapa Haka every second Thursday.
