Year 7 Camp - Castle Hill

Ms Brigit McCormack & Mrs Shelley Haworth —

The Y7’s had a dream start to Term II with their Outdoor Education Camp at Castle Hill.

After arriving  at the lodge at Castle Hill the students rotated through mountain biking, problem-solving challenges and the flying fox which seemed to be everyone’s favourite challenge. The evening meal was prepared by the students and they became familiar with the kitchen rules and routines. The evening was wrapped up with an evaluation of the day and  some down-time in front of the lodge’s log fire.

The next morning saw the students participate in some orienteering exercises and preparations for the tramp and overnight camp out. From the photographs you can see that the camp was blessed with the most amazing weather. The panoramic views of The Torlesse Ranges were impressive for all to see. Once at camp the students enjoyed cooking their meal on a stove, a camp fire and sleeping under shelters. The benefit of bringing the essential gear was realised with a clear autumn night under the stars.

A focus of the Y7 Camp was to practise aspects of leadership and implement teamwork. On reflection students will be looking at times when they demonstrated skills such as resilience, collaboration, self-organisation, initiative, problem-solving and teamwork. This will be ongoing throughout the year with more challenges in Term III and the Leadership Week in Term IV.
