World Vision Awards’ Dinner
Last Thursday, the four Y8 World Vision committee members, Bruce Chen, Saamya Gulati, Liv Monkman and Christian Higgins, along with Ms McCormack and Mr Foster, attended the World Vision 40-Hour Famine Awards’ Dinner at Hillview Christian School. This event celebrated the achievements of schools and churches across the South Island which were involved in this year’s 40-Hour Famine, which raised money for children suffering hardship as a result of the war in Syria.
Congratulations to the committee for demonstrating impressive leadership and a strong sense of service in driving this event at Cathedral Grammar.
And a huge THANK YOU to the many members of the Grammar family who made donations to this very worthy cause.

Cantamaths
On Wednesday 23 August, the Canterbury Mathematical Association staged the annual Cantamaths' problem solving competition at Horncastle Arena. As usual, teams from around 90 schools across the Canterbury region competed in each of the Y7 and Y8 sections of the competition.
Cathedral Grammar’s Y7 team of George Pearse, James Lange, Yong Sun and Ella Matthews performed strongly, answering eleven questions correctly in 30 minutes, which earned them a very respectable 16th place. Following this, the Y8 team of Isaac Heap, Bruce Chen, Jasper Moss and Katie Buttle took to the floor. For a long period, this Grammar team was close to the lead and eventually finished in 6th place, having answered an impressive seventeen questions in half an hour.
Well done to both teams, who did the school proud. Thanks to Mrs Dodgshun for preparing the teams for the competition and to all those who came along to watch and support this exciting annual event.
RoboCup
On Saturday 19 August, Grammar entered two teams in the RoboCup Junior Competition. The boys had worked hard over the term preparing their robots, during their after-school club sessions. Their programming skills have improved tremendously, and each team produced an excellent performance in front of many schools from around Canterbury.
Well done to Michael Taylor, Rian Gracey, Finnian Chan-Allan, Conor Gracey, Jack Simpson and Cameron Smillie.
Current Events' Quiz Acheivement
Three teams attended the Y7&8 Christchurch Current Events Quiz on Thursday evening. Although all three were in contention at various stages during the rounds, it was the boys from 8JE who were 1st equal at the end of Round 10. This meant a “sudden death” playoff, which they unfortunately lost, coming second out of 55 teams. Congratulations to George Ladley, Arthur Mahon and Henri Murison.
