Mission Hub Launch Draws Strong National Response

Alison Carroll —

The very first Mission Hub gathering opened with an inspiring and hope-filled start. Our very own Alison Carroll, co-ordinator for the Mission Hub, shares her reflection on this month’s inaugural online gathering.

The Mission Hub, a new initiative, aims to help disciples build a culture of prayer, leadership, and mission in their local contexts. It was created in response to the desire for renewal expressed at the recent Hope and Renewal Summit, where many indicated they wanted to stay connected, learn, and take concrete next steps in mission.

A Gathering Centred on Prayer and Renewal

The launch session drew 127 registrations and 90 live participants representing every diocese in New Zealand, and two from Australia. It focused on the theme “Prayer that Fuels Renewal.” Participants reflected on Ezekiel 37 and the God who brings dry bones to life, and explored five key aspects of missional prayer:

  • facing outward

  • flowing from desire

  • being focused

  • persevering in labour

  • praying with Spirit-given authority

The evening included prayer, worship, teaching, and small-group conversation. Regional breakout rooms created space for participants to connect locally, sharing their hopes for renewal in their own parish communities.

A Growing Movement of Mission

The session also highlighted new opportunities for evangelisation and discipleship, including an update from the Catholic Enquiry Centre introducing the roles of Parish Connectors and Resource Champions. Emily Sit offered a thoughtful behind-the-scenes reflection on the recent Hope and Renewal Summit. Participants were encouraged to commit to daily prayer for renewal and to consider gathering two or three others to pray intentionally for their local parish and community.

A recording of the full launch session is available for anyone who missed it or wishes to revisit the content:
