Members for life: New life member for Catholic Women's League

Kirsty Muir —

New life member for Catholic Women's League - This nomination was put forward to the Council Members in September 2024 and awarded at the recent conference at Mount Maunganui. Below, read the speech given by treasurer, Denise Powell.

Kathy - it is with great pleasure that our Diocese presents you with this honour today.

You have played a significant role in CWL for many years, beginning first at Branch Level, followed by Diocese level before leaping onto National level.

You have covered all the top table positions - so to speak = Secretary, Treasurer and President. This includes your roles in the Branch, Diocese and on the National Board.

We are all aware that you are the go-to person for all things CWL, such is your knowledge related to our organisation.

You are a compassionate ambassador for CWL, having visited existing branches and attended their weekend Masses to emphasise our aims and missions to the congregations.

We now have posters and banners, thanks to your initiative. You canvassed a new badge.  You have been an integral part of hosting a National conference and more frequently been inspirational with our Diocese conferences and regional days. You are now onto your fourth Hamilton Diocese President but looking to deservedly retire.

We believe your mother Eileen Ellery, was the most likely influence on you being a dedicated and loyal member of CWL. Your mother was twice President for Rotorua and remained a member into her nineties. So, we know that you have many years left to devote to everything CWL.
