Catholic Women's League: 5 more years to 50 for the Hamilton Diocese
The 45th conference for the Hamilton Diocese chapter of the Catholic Women's League was celebrated in Gisborne this March.
Gisborne were fabulous hosts, with a great programme - they last hosted a conference in 1999. The weather was supreme - perfect blue skies for the 3 days we were there. Travelling there and home was easy and hassle free, but there is a lot of work still going on in the gorge. The billet options were well received, but there were still many apologies, sadly.
Sue Baker, Gisborne's president and a professional baker, made a spectacular cake to celebrate Father Mark's 18th priestly anniversary and Father Ritche's 4th. A BBQ was also held to commemorate the occasion and parishioners joined us too.
Father Ritche was the guest speaker and had us all entranced with his Vocation story. The Mass was beautiful, celebrated by our new Chaplain Father Adam Kirkeby, assisted by both Fathers Mark and Ritche.
We have an urgent vacancy for a Mission Convenor - please encourage new members, especially if they would be interested in this role. They will be ably assisted.
National President Sylvia Mellish gave a very informative talk on Pope Francis's message about Peace, accompanied with a beautiful song about peace.
Two Life members out of seven were present, with Jane Diment our latest to be installed. Sadly she couldn't attend due to family matters. So, we will have a presentation at our May meeting in Rotorua.
Our Chaplain wrapped up the conference with a prayer. Te Awamutu is the venue for next annual conference in 2027. We need to keep going, so we can celebrate 50 years as a diocese in 2030!
