Headmaster's Comment

Nic Hill —

It has been an excellent term, again with some memorable Boys’ High moments. Though appreciative of a holiday, we are looking forward to term three and a key milestone for the school with the opening of the Hall. There will be an assembly for students on Tuesday the 5th of September and a wider community event on the 8th of September. This will be a special moment in School’s history and it symbolises our commitment to building the community. The Hall shows that building relationships are central to our curriculum.

When we return for term three we will have appointed the architects for the Caddick and Caldwell Classroom block. Now is a good time for the community to have another look at the Classroom Design Principles that have been approved by the Board and that will guide us through this process. The Deans Building restoration will also be completed next term.

Two of our staff Ms Pearson and Ms Pears are currently in San Antonio Texas at the International Society for Technology in Education Conference. Their attendance at this conference has been made possible by the gift to School from the Craig Trembath Trust and it is wonderful that we have been able to recognise two teachers who have been at the forefront of the school’s thinking about modern learning. We do realise that if our students are not preparing for the modern world we will be disadvantaging them.

I do want to publicly thank the staff for their involvement in Manu Korero. We hosted this Maori speech competition in conjunction with Te Whanau Tahi. The event was very successful and our involvement sends a positive signal about our school and staff valuing Maori achievement. The CBHS students who spoke and the boys who supported them reflected very positively on the school.

I wish everyone an enjoyable holiday. A busy term lies ahead with some key extracurricular events and NCEA looms ever closer.
