Daniel Hapuku —

During term two senior reo Māori students (Years 12 and 13) have been studying the language and performance of Haka.

As a part of their programme they were required to teach all Year 9 form classes the school haka, with great success. The senior students taught our year 9 boys about poise, control, unity, discipline and appropriate times to use haka. Such was the success that the Year 9 boys, and their form teachers decided to present a Year 9 haka to the senior reo Māori students, as of Tuesday night it had over 13 thousand views on the CBHS Facebook Page.

After gaining first place at the recent secondary schools regional Kapa Haka competition our combined Kapa Haka group, Te Toi Huarewa will travel to the Hawkes Bay to represent Christchurch Boys', Te Whānau Tahi, and Hornby High School at a national level. We have a number of our boys involved, who commit to practices every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday to ensure they are truly competitive at a national level. Not only will our boys be representing our school and our region, but they will be eligible for up to 25 NCEA Level 2 credits and 10 NCEA Level 3 credits through Performing Arts. A very worthwhile commitment with just rewards.
