Two former CBHS students have donated and contributed a large native wood delivered to our School to be carved by Guidance Councellor, Wiremu Gray and students of CBHS. 

Robb MacBeth coordinated the timber and covered the cost of delivery and Jon Dronfield donated, felled and dried the timber, both former students happy to help out on the School carving project.

The timber was found as a standing dead Kahikatea tree on the west coast. It was placed in a kiln, dried and cut ready to be carved. The Kahikatea tree was chosen as the wood of choice because the tree is commonly found in the Deans Bush area. Therefore it has a strong connection with the local stories and history of CBHS.

The slab is 9.5 meters long and currently weighs over 1200 kgs. The carving is going to be fixed above sliding doors as a pare (lintel) and is going to have a real presence.
