March has been another very busy month for the CBHS Careers Dept. Students have had the opportunity to attend university presentations, the CPIT Have a Go Day and also sit one-on-one with Bunnings staff and apply for part-time jobs.

Year 12 University Discovery Day

On the 12th April, a new initiative at the University of Canterbury will give Year 12 students the chance to get a taste of university and enjoy a day as a student. They will attend lectures, learn about some of the courses offered, experience the campus and get a feel for student life. All Year 12 students and parents were sent an email with information about the day and how to register. Over 120 Year 12 students will be attending this day which is a fantastic result. Please keep an eye out for further information via email and in Assembly closer to the time.

Round 2 Bunnings part-time job interviews

Year 12 and 13 students who are interested in applying for a part-time position working at Bunnings Riccarton please see Mr Webster in the Careers Office. Interviews to be held Wed 6th April at 2:30pm in C5. Students must bring an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae.

Thinking about a career in the New Zealand Defence Force?

Parents, caregivers and friends are welcome to attend the Defence Careers information sessions offered at HMNZS Pegasus, 419 Montreal Street, on Tuesday 12 April, Tuesday 24 May and Tuesday 13 September. Force Info provides an in-depth overview of New Zealand’s Defence Force, including career opportunities, while Force Fit will guide you through what to expect at the initial fitness test.
 

NASDA for a Day - CPIT Aoraki - now know as Ara Institute of Canterbury

Ara Institute are looking to host students who may seriously be thinking of pursuing a career in the arts and to give them a taste of what it would be like to train in a performing arts school. This year Ara Institute will be giving students the chance to experience classes such as tap, jazz and ballet, singing, acting, performance masterclass and chorus, plus rehearsals in the afternoon for upcoming productions. Congratulations 

Congratulations to Michael Olivier for securing a Building Apprenticeship at Tomkies Construction. This is a fantastic result for Michael which resulted from some excellent assistance and guidance by our Gateway Co-ordinator Mrs Eustace. This is the 29th student that Mrs Eustace has assisted in gaining an Apprenticeship.
