World Visioneers
Bungee runs, sausage sizzles and even karaoke. Christchurch Boys’ High has had some fun this past month, and it’s all been in the name of charity.
World Vision is an international organisation that raises money for underprivileged persons in developing countries. This year its focus is on the millions of Syrian refugees who are being forced to leave their homes.
A group of fine young men, led by Andrew Wedlake, for the first time ran a fundraising week for this worthy cause.
Andrew, assisted by Bryn Henderson, Henry Hawke and Jack Zarifeh, organised a bungee run and sausage sizzle which took place every lunchtime for a whole week. The boys raised a substantial sum of money from this alone. The money is still coming in and the exact amount of which has not yet been determined.
Without the huge support from the generous sponsors (Lone Star, Joe’s Garage, Happy Hire, Burger Wisconsin Papanui, Couplands, Countdown and The Mad Butcher) this fun week would not have been possible. They provided the $600 worth of spot prizes and consumables that maximised our profit. Additionally, a number of other Year 13’s stepped up and showed their initiative and leadership skills to support this cause.
The boys said that “this has been a fantastic learning experience and opportunity for the us to make a real difference”.
So, next year, who is going to step up and try and beat this year’s donation? The hunt is on for a new group of boys willing to have a whole lot of fun in the name of charity.
