Schools succeed because of their culture regardless of whether they are single sex or co-educational

We know that boys’ schools have the potential for greater:

This potential is realised by culture. Culture is an absolute focus for the leaders and wider community of Christchurch Boys’ High School.

Culture is reliant on clarity of expectations. Behaviour and social connection can, and should be, explicitly taught. This is what is behind the magic of boys’ schools.


CBHS boys know that we are about creating good men. The mission of developing and supporting fine young men with moral courage is embedded at Christchurch Boys’ High School.

Boys are influenced by the beliefs and values they are immersed in and exposed to. In committing to boys’ single sex education CBHS is committing to an environment that values all people and recognises the importance of staff as role models.

A commitment to single sex boys’ education is a commitment to identifying, talking about, modelling, and developing a modern, values based, positive, inclusive and caring masculinity.
