Tennis 2019

Guy Ferguson —

2018 has been a successful, and unsuccessful, year for the Senior A team winning both traditional fixtures against prominent Auckland tennis schools Auckland Grammar and Westlake Boys’ High School. Unfortunately we lost on count back to a good Timaru Boys’ team in relation to qualifying for Nationals.

In 2018 tennis on a Wednesday administered Canterbury Secondary School, has been an ongoing challenge. Moving groups of boys across Christchurch at 2.30 pm has proved problematic and at times unmanageable. Teachers are no longer in a position to supervise and manage boys at this time and it is also more common now that both parents are working and unavailable. Commitment and communication from the boys is an on-going issue.

In 2019 we are looking to employ Te Kura Pro Coach Hugo Nurse-Strange to run an in-house ladder competition on a Wednesday afternoon at Te Kura. If we were to get a lot of interest we would look at running another ladder in the evening as well.

The School would also like to promote Hugo’s Coaching to all CBHS students. This is user pays and will be on a Wednesday morning or when it suits your son and Hugo.

Coaching - Senior A, Extended squad

We are really proud to announce that CBHS Old Boy James Meredith (2003-2007) will be coaching our Senior A team in 2019. James and his brother Tim are passionate about CBHS tennis and during their time at school Christchurch Boys’ High School was one of the best schools in New Zealand. The Senior A squad will consist of the top 6- 10 players who the school will select on club tennis rankings and interest. Coaching will be on a Wednesday morning between 7:00 am – 8.30am at Te Kura.
