4. Absences and Appointments
For absences or appointments there are four ways to contact the school Absentee line: (03) (03) 348 5003 then dial option 1 Absentee Email: absences@cbhs.nz
Lateness to school or class
From 8.45am–9.00am students must sign in at the Kiosk (Caddick building).
From 9am, students must go to the Student Services Centre Reception to sign in. Failure to do this will result in detention. If a student does not attend Kaitiaki (8.45am - 9.00am) and does not sign in and there is no notification by email or telephone from parents to the school, a text or email will be sent to parents/caregivers letting them know of the absence.
Lateness to class – All students must be standing outside their classroom at the start of each lesson. Continual lateness will result in a school detention
Note: Students regularly late for an accepted reason are to carry a school note explaining the circumstances.
Illness During School Hours
If a student becomes unwell during class time, the class teacher will give the student a note to go to Student Services Centre. Students can go directly to student services during interval or lunch. will phone home if students need to be collected. Students should not phone home to be collected.
Absence due to Sickness
For absences longer than three days, a medical certificate must be provided. This is particularly important if your son is enrolled in an NCEA/Unit Standard Course. Contact is to be made each day your son is away unless previously stated.
Parent or guardian is to ring Student Services (Mrs Burns) before 9am on the morning of the absence (03 348 5003 ext 231). (Leave a message on the answer phone is available) or email absences@cbhs.nz.
Parents will be contacted by text when Student Services is not aware of the reason for a student absence.
If parent phone calls cannot be made after the first day of absence a note stating the reason for, and date(s) of absence is to be given or sent to absences@cbhs.nz before Period 1 on the first day of return to school.
Approved Leave (longer than 3 days)
Prior permission for absence other than sickness or emergency must be obtained via the school data base; the request is made via an e-form and well in advance of the sought period of absence.
This will be approved by the Head of Pastoral as justified or unjustified.
Appointments Out of School
Appointments should be made out of school hours.
Where appointments have to be made in school time, an appointment card or parent/guardian note must be presented to the Student Services well in advance of the absence the school.
If a note is provided, it must be shown to their Kaitiaki teacher that morning and shown to the Student Services Center Reception before they leave the school.
Students MUST sign out at the Student Services reception when they leave school, and sign back in on their return.
Telephone
Students may use the Dean’s phone for emergencies. They will not be allowed to use the office telephone.
Unexplained absences
Will result in 8.15 detention and, in if continual then a Dean detention.
Explained and unexplained absences are reported in the Weekly Note email that is sent home every Friday.
Accident and Injury
Accident and injury are to be immediately reported to Student Services, a teacher or office staff.
If there is any doubt about the injuries, the injured student is to be left where he is until Student Services, or a teacher arrives.
Student Services (Mrs Burns) and some workshop and P.E. teachers are trained in first aid and have medical supplies available.
