CBHS Facilities, Support Services and Equipment

Dave Bone —

The sports office will compile timetables for the use of areas within the school, e.g. two gymnasiums, fields and tennis courts, Turf, fitness Centre. Please get your requests in as soon as possible as there is a great demand for some areas.

Due to the number of teams, in the winter season the priority for gymnasium use lies with basketball. However, there are other rooms which can be booked for team meetings/theory sessions in the event of inclement weather. Please contact the sports office if, and when, you would like to book an additional room.

Strength & Conditioning – Martin Stokes is our Fitness center manager and works with individuals and teams to help prepare our students for the physical demands of sport and maximise their performance.

Equipment (balls, cones, first aid etc) - Equipment will be issued to each team by the sports office at the beginning of the season and this must be returned at the end of the season. It is important that the gear allocated to you is looked after – please ensure that all gear is picked up after training and nothing is left on the courts, field, turf or in the gym. If you need any replacement equipment, please let the sports department know.

For some sports, students are expected to have their own personal protective equipment (PPE), relevant to the sport they are playing e.g. mouthguards, shin guards. Please ensure your players are using the required PPE when training and playing.

Concussion

The school has a protocol around the handling of suspected and confirmed cases of concussion. Please ensure you are familiar with this and ensure that any accidents that may involve the potential for concussion are communicated to the Sports Staff (See Appendices).

For all injuries

In the case of a serious injury or emergency during trainings or games, call 111 first for an ambulance and please make arrangements to inform the student’s parents as soon as possible.

If onsite before 4:30pm, contact the school office to get the parent contact. If after 5pm, please ring the Boarding House or the Head of Sport – numbers below:

  • Head of Sport – Dave Bone - 021 704 441

  • Boarding House – Rhys Archibald - 027 632 3507

Where necessary teams will be allocated a first aid kit and will be expected to have this with them at their games. If you do not have one or if your kit needs topping up throughout the season, please contact the sports office.

Concerns about students wellbeing

It is important that we support our students to find balance in their busy lives. If you have concerns about a student’s physical or mental wellbeing, please contact a member of our sports staff to discuss your concerns.

You will be advised if any of your team have any special health needs. Confidentiality is obviously essential.
