Maria Connolly —

First Year Scholarship application process for the University of Canterbury.

  • University of Canterbury (UC) Scholarships are not the same as NCEA Scholarships.

  • Students need to apply for their own MyUC account

  • All students applying for a Scholarship need a professional email address that includes their name as their CBHS email will close once they leave school.

  • All students need to clean their social media accounts so they do not contain images and comments that do not reflect their personal statements.

  • If students are applying for a Te Kakau a Māui scholarship they must apply for a ‘Real Me’ account and complete their Studylink Student Allowance application.  I recommend students complete the eligibility test before they apply.

  • Students should be completing their Scholarship applications in July as all Scholarships require a School reference which is written by the Year 13 Dean Mr Waller.

  • Students should write their personal statements into a word document first – so they are spell checked and also, you can use the statement again.

  • All Year 13 CBHS students were emailed these slides following the UC presentation at CBHS on 18 June.

  • When applying students must read the regulations, answer the questions carefully (some questions have multiple parts to answer), apply for all the scholarships you are eligible for.

Scholarships available – students can apply for more than one:

  1. Outstanding Impact (Excellence or Merit endorsement at NCEA Level 2)

  2. Te Kakau a Māui (all ethnicities)

  3. Empowerment through Adversity

  4. Haupatu -Sports (must play for UC but can play for any other team also)

  5. Kaitoko Māori

  6. Kaitoko Pacific

To apply, students must set up their own MyUC Account.  The Scholarships Dashboard needs to be 100% completed before you submit.  Refer to the following images to get you started:
