Open days, scholarships and expos. Everything senior students and parents need to know is in this article. Make sure you know what is coming up so you don't miss out!

Upcoming University Open Days:

Victoria University, Study@Vic Day – Friday 26 August

The Study@Vic Open Day is a good opportunity for boys and parents to see the university in action, attend lectures, visit the various residential halls and colleges and talk to staff. It is a good chance to see if Wellington is a “good fit”.

University of Auckland and AUT Open Days – Saturday 27 August

The two universities are across the road from each other and both offer very good courses. AUT is one of the fastest growing universities in the country.

University Accommodation

Online applications for university accommodation open from Monday 1 August. All applications received between 1 August and 30 September will be considered equally for a first offer. This means that students attending courses and careers days on 26– 27 August in Wellington and Auckland can wait to submit their applications until after they have viewed the halls.

Here is a great resource for both students and parents. It provides information on all the scholarships available to new students and gives them a step-by-step explanation on how to make an application.

Victoria University - school-leaver scholarships for 2017 

The Keystone Study Awards and Scholarships, really make a difference to your time at university. Not only is there a financial reward, but doors will open that you never dreamed would be possible. Our scholarships also include mentoring, site visits and workshops. Study Award Scholarships will be opening on 1 June so make sure you have the date locked into your students’ diaries. Otago University - Maori & PI Entrance Scholarship 

Value of $10,000. The scholarships are not available until 1 July 2016, so please check back then. 

Coffee Culture Charitable Foundation Secondary School Achievement Scholarships 

Applications for the are now open. Every year Coffee Culture offer a number of $500 scholarships to help secondary school students in Canterbury, Otago and the Waikato regions achieve their sporting, cultural, and academic goals. You can find more information here.


Defence Expo

The ForceEquip Defence Expo - 'Preparing you for the Workforce' The ForceEquip Defence Expo 2016 will assist students with some of the important decisions they will have to make in the future.
The ForceEquip Defence Expo 2016 will be held at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, Wigram, Christchurch. A FREE public open night will be held on Tuesday 5 July 5-8pm. Please contact DefenceCareersSouthern@NZDF.mil.nz to register your interest.
You’ll also get the chance to chat to NZDF staff, hear about their own experiences and find out what life in the Defence Force is really like. Plus you’ll get the chance to check out some of our most advanced vehicles and equipment and check out our open cockpits showcasing our Air Force Training Air Craft.

University of Canterbury - Criminal Justice Day 2016

What is it?

Criminal Justice Day is a half-day session for Year 13 students exploring the nature of criminal justice both as a subject for study and as a career. Students will gain an understanding of what study of criminal justice entails; participate in a mock trial; and hear Dr Jarrod Gilbert, our resident specialist in justice and injustice, explore a variety of issues from gangs to youth imprisonment. Students will also have an opportunity to meet and question industry guests working within New Zealand’s criminal justice system and to get a feel for the wide variety of jobs in the sector.

When is it?

The 2016 Criminal Justice Day will take place on Tuesday 14 June from 12.30-3.00pm.
