Vocational Pathways and Business Partnerships

Phil Robson —

Christchurch Boys’ High School have been working with businesses in Christchurch through our Business Partnership programme for over 10 years. Computer Concepts Limited is one of Christchurch’s leading ICT companies and earlier this year a partnership was established with CBHS. The video above shows last years class trips to CCL where two Year 10 classes visited their data centre and service desk.

More recently, two Year 13 students spend Term 2 working with ICT specialists in the service desk centre seeing first had how this particular sector of the ICT industry operates. Liam Dempsey describes his experience:

"When you want to go into the ICT industry you are not really sure what it involves and it is good to see what one aspect of it is actually like. We have been shown the process of how service desks work and how they solve client’s problems. CCL is a big operation and it has a lot of really good opportunities. Some of the work I have seen and terms I have heard have been touched on with the course work I am doing at school, so it adds some realism to it."

In Term 3 two more senior students have been selected to spend 1-2 hours per week alongside ICT specialists at CCL.

The video below shows a vocational pathways visit conducted at Ganellen Construction by a Year 10 class in Term 2 this year.
