South Island Secondary Schools MX Champs

Lockie Milne battled hard against some of the fastest riders in the South Island in the 12-14yrs 125cc class and came away with 4th Place.

He then went on to compete in the Canvastown MX Champs in Havelock over 2 days racking up an additional 12 more races proving that fitness and consistency was key in keeping up with the front bunch, Lockie came away with 5th place overall in the 12-16yrs 125cc class battling some very strong riders, and then 9th place overall in the 12-16yrs 85cc class with a stacked gate of riders all bustling to get to the front, this class was not without some hitches with a flat front tyre and some last minute clutch resetting but Lockie just kept going out there and pushed harder each lap. Was a great weekend overall leading towards Junior MX Nationals in two weeks time at Flips in the North Island.

Senior Rugby vs American Touring Team - Marin Highlanders from California

It was an exciting and enjoyable rugby match between the CBHS Men and the Marin Highlanders from California. The opportunity for both teams to come together and compete in such a friendly and spirited manner highlights the true essence of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Despite the victory for CBHS, the emphasis on the value of sports and the bonds formed between the players from different backgrounds is truly commendable. Such experiences not only enrich the sporting prowess of individuals but also foster lasting memories and friendships. The gesture of gratitude towards the Marin Highlanders for visiting New Zealand and providing this memorable opportunity reflects the ethos of sportsmanship and hospitality. Indeed, it's more than just a game; it's about the connections and memories created along the way.

Surfing

Surfing went extremely well in Term 1, it was always a great way to break up the week and leave any problems on land. We had far more numbers than we have ever had for the sport and it was great giving the boys of all abilities the opportunity to experience a sport that has been around for centuries. Despite the conditions on the day the boys always enjoyed themselves coming out of the water with a smile.

A huge thank you to the staff members who have up their time to give the boys the experience. Without them the sport would not run – Mr Mike Boomer, Mr Lukas Sacco, Mr Connor O’Neill, Mr Hugo Saathof and Mr Patrick Coady.

Surfing will run again in Term 4.

Old Boy Laurence Pithie

Is set to join Bora-Hansgrohe (a German cycling squad) in 2025.

Laurence Pithie will race for Bora-Hansgrohe in 2025, having agreed terms on a multi-year deal with the German squad.

Riders cannot officially sign for new teams until the UCI transfer deadline is lifted on 1 August, but GCN understands that the New Zealand rider will wear Bora-Hansgrohe colours next season amid interest from several other WorldTour teams.

Pithie, 21, came through the ranks at Groupama-FDJ’s U23 programme and turned professional in 2023 with the French World Tour squad. He had a highly respectable first year in the elite ranks, winning Cholet-Pays de la Loire and claiming several minor placings. But 2024 has seen the rider’s value skyrocket, starting with a win at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. Laurence gained 7th placing in the Paris-Roubaix click here to read more.

He backed that up with several impressive outings in the Spring Classics, helping to form the winning break in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, before picking up eighth in Le Samyn, several top-10s in Paris-Nice, and then playing several more cameo roles during the remainder of the cobbled Classics. He will now skip Paris-Roubaix before targeting his Grand Tour debut at the Giro d’Italia.
