Winter Sports Trials
Trials will be starting the week of 25 March (after Summer Tournament Week)
Respective sports will release this information soon – keep an eye on notices and school publications for these details.
There are some training sessions currently happening for winter sports. These are available to all students as long as they don’t clash with your summer sport. They are extra sessions that are encouraging boys to get active before the winter season. Your summer sport has priority.

Touch
CBHS is well represented with our Senior Touch team participating this term in the South Island Secondary School Tournament mid-March and Wednesday night SuperTouch.
In December 2023 our students performed strongly in the NZSS National tournament finishing a credible 10th.
To note were the excellent performances put in by some of our younger, upcoming stars that supported the drive and gile from Y13 leavers Oli Wynen and Jake Frost. Also to note was the try feast Hiro Fuchigami provided and the opportunity creation from Delhoia Kakoi, Sam Vincent and Will Haig. Players to watch in 2024 include Jai Tufuga, Koby Harwood and the U16 Canterbury Reps!
A number of our boys have recently competed in the Touch New Zealand Youth National Tournament, in Auckland 2nd – 4th February, representing the Canterbury U16 and U18 Boys Teams. The Canterbury U16 Boys team comprised of five CBHS lads, Ashton Kitson, Kaci Heath, Nikau Hawe-DeThierry, Jai Tufuga and new to CBHS, Jackson Grant. Although losing by 1 to the eventual competition winners,
The Canterbury U18’s, featuring CBHS Touch ‘weapons’ Will Haig and Hiro Fuchigami alongside Sam Vincent and Koby Harwood finishing a commendable 3rd.
For CBHS Touch we must thank coaches Reece (Nacho) Allen and young Old Boy Max Hughes for their commitment to developing our players and also to all the parents supporting the team so well. If touch is of interest for students please get in touch with CBHS Sport or talk to one of the players mentioned above.
Cricket
Special achievement by the CBHS 1st XI at Straven on Saturday 11th March.
Winning the 10-week, Canterbury Two-Day competition with one round still to go.
This is a back-to-back title.
The innings victory vs Timaru Boys' High School was led by Year 11 Sam Frame who took 10 wickets in the match with figures of 8 for 48 in the 3rd innings.
Within this competition the boys have had wins over :
CBHS 2nd XI
STAC 1st XI
St Bede's 1st XI
The final match is vs Christ's College 1st XI - 22/23 March (which doubles up as a traditional fixture)
The 1st XI played Christ's College 1st XI in the T20 final on Wednesday at CBHS.
CBHS claiming victory, standout performances from Callum Samson 47 off 45 balls, Brennan Matla 4 for 11 and Ben Forrest 3 for 10.
Our Year 11 development team also played in their T20 final on Wednesday afternoon putting in a brave performance against a strong Christ's College 2nd XI who came away with the win.
Korfball
Results from SISS Korfball Championships last weekend.
The SMC/CBHS team performed exceptionally well, finishing in 3rd place out of 19 teams.
They played some extremely impressive Korfball and finished with the best goal differential after day 1.
Special congratulations to Zavier Toaolamai-Holden in Year 12 for being selected in the tournament team of 4 girls and 4 boys.

SISS Triathlon - Oamaru
It was great to have a team of four that travelled to Oamaru for the SISS Triathlon. While our two year nine competitors James Trimboy and Alex Cosgriff, are experienced hands at the triathlon, our year 12 competitors Ferdi Tan and Ridley Bluett were giving the multi-sport a go for the first time after a background in marathon and half-marathon running.
All four boys did an outstanding job representing Boys' High. In the Under 14s, James had a superb swim and strong bike leg to be leading going into the run. Alex struggled through some tough conditions in the swim, but then made up really good ground through a strong cycle leg. Ultimately it was Ben Lough of Burnside High that came through to take the spoils with a winning time of 36.45. James was second, close-up in 37.07, while Alex ran really well to come home 4th in 38.09.
In the Senior Boys, Ridley and Ferdi really battled through the swim leg, the 750m swim in the harbour proving really character-building. However, once through that obstacle, they gained plenty of confidence through a strong bike leg, before finishing their favoured running leg looking like they had really enjoyed themselves. Big ups to these two boys who showed some great ticker throughout. Both immediately committed to being back in 12 months time. Ridley placed 6th - 1.13.54 and Ferdi 7th - 1.26.57.
Thanks to the parents who made the trip down and the boys in taking a good step in putting CBHS Triathlon back on the map. It was a very enjoyable morning.
