Rugby
Rugby is the biggest winter sporting code at CBHS. It is played predominantly in the 2nd & 3rd term.
CBHS fields 18+ teams in the CRFU Metro competition. Rugby fixtures run parallel to other winters sports such as hockey & basketball. We play against various schools and clubs around Christchurch and the South Island as well as an annual winter exchange with Otago Boys’ High School.
The first XV plays in the Miles Toyota Premiership and our 2nd XV the Championship division which is testament to the strength of CBHS rugby.
Our U15A Rugby team also attended an annual U15 Invitational Tournament which is located in a different town or city yearly.
There is an emphasis on quality coaching for all the teams.
With over 400 current players and having produced 47 All Blacks, Christchurch Boys’ High School has a strong rugby history and has the backing of a supportive community.
The annual match with Christ’s College is an iconic New Zealand rugby fixture that draws nationwide interest.
Trials are held at the end of term 1. A Year 9 rugby camp is held in the Christmas holidays. This is a great way for the boys to meet their Year 9 school mates. Attendance is not compulsory.
Due to the large number of boys who play rugby the club is reliant on the support of volunteer coaches and managers, so if you are able to assist, please let us know: sports@cbhs.nz
