Anzac Day 2019

Steve Fraser —

ANZAC DAY 2019 Anzac Day was commemorated for the second time in the new School Hall and was attended by over 1000 people including 200 Year 9 boys and a significant number of students from other year levels, as well as many Old Boys and others from the School’s community.

The ceremony featured a montage of photos of many of the Old Boys whose names are on the Roll of Honour. Hymns and readings done by representatives of the School’s community lead up to the reading of the Roll of Honour by Senior Monitor Fergus Kilpatrick.

The main address this year was given by Wing Commander (ret’d) Emma Davis who caused us to pause and remember the contributions of not only the men who went off to war, but also the women who both served overseas and kept the country going back home.

The Old Boy commemorated in a special citation this year was Company Sergeant-Major Ernest Elgood Crawshaw who was killed in action just one month before the war ended. Crawshaw’s name appears not only on the World War I Shrine but also as the first recipient of the Robert Deans Scholarship in 1908.
