Foundation Continues to Provide Opportunities

Alex Reese —

Christchurch Boys' High School have been supporters of the Cricket Live Foundation for a number of years now.

In our first year of operations, Matt Parr and Richard Taylor joined a team of coaches to run a Coach Education and Teacher Training programme in Sri Lanka for our up and coming coaches. They were with us for two weeks, working long days and making a huge difference in the lives of all coaches and children they worked with.

Very generously, the students of CBHS also raised a substantial amount of money for the Foundation last year, which went towards the expansion of our programme, to the East Coast of Sri Lanka.

Currently we have over 300 children in our ‘Life Through Cricket’ programme, and will have over 400 children by the end of this year including an inaugural intake of girls which will be incredibly exciting.

Over the last two years, we have been working hard on putting together a structured Volunteer Programme. The concept for this was to give High School students, and recent school leavers the opportunity to travel to the other side of the world, immerse themselves in a different culture and use sport to change the lives of underprivileged children.

To date we have had over a dozen students over to Sri Lanka fine tuning the Volunteer Programme. As a result, we now are in a position to make this an official addition to the Cricket Live Foundation.

We offer Volunteer intakes in the April, September and December school holidays. Each intake will have different responsibilities and objectives; all equally as exciting as each other. We are currently looking for interested students to be part of our September and December intakes.

For anyone interested in this opportunity, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Mr Parr, Mr Taylor or myself.
