Each month we will take a look at a different department within the school to find out what goes on on a daily basis. We kick things off with Physical Education and the Head of Department, Eddie Murphy.

"Educate, Inspire, Empower”
Staff: Mr E Murphy (HOD), Mr D Ralston, Mr D Bone (Yr 10 Dean), Mr G McNaughton (Yr 12 Dean), Mr M Parr, Mr P Watson, Mr P McKay, Mr S Zarifeh.

The Physical Education Department at Christchurch Boys’ High School again started the year offering a diverse range of programmes and learning experiences, within its courses.

Learning through physical activity is the priority of the programmes that offer a wide range of physical activities, both individual and team.

Perceptions of Physical Education are sometimes confused with Sport, which focuses more on competitive participation in a singular sporting field. Whereas the reality is, that Physical Education provides a diversity of learning that covers a wide range of physical activities which emphasis the development of:

  • a broad range of movement skills.
  • relationships, interpersonal skills and social responsibility in physical activities requiring cooperation and leadership.
  • a students physical development, fitness and well-being
  • student contribution to our school and local communities
