Cricket Gillette Cup Results, New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics and Rowing South Island Championship

Welcome to the CBHS Blue Black for 2024.

Blue Black celebrates the sporting achievements of all the boys. It is great hearing about what the boys have been up to and the successes they have had. Sometimes these achievements occur in sports and competitions that Boys' High is not involved in so, please let us know what the boys have been up to.

It is important to us to celebrate the successes of all the boys at CBHS.

Please send a summary and photo to - bnd@cbhs.nz

Please take a moment to read the School's Sports Policy and our Sports Code of Conduct at the bottom of Blue Black. It is a privilege to play sport for the school, and this privilege is earnt in the classroom, on the school grounds and in our community.

I look forward to meeting and working with the boys in 2024.

Dave Bone

Director of Sport

Cricket results - Gillette Cup

In 2023 Christchurch Boys’ High 1st XI Cricket Team again qualified for the Gillette Cup finals.

Winning the first four games of the tournament saw the unbeaten team meet in the final game to decide the title. Boys' High battled first, making 241/8. Westlake started their chase and as the game proceeded a very tight contest was at place. A vital break through by Chris Ellison and two quick wickets saw Boys' High bowl Westlake out for 227/10 resulting in our boys winning by 14 runs and becoming National Champions for the 12th time.

Congratulations to the team and coaching staff.

Cooper Wightman - Has continued to produce a set of amazing performances with his middle distance running. He finished 2023 as the top ranked 1500m runner nationally for Under 18 and the second ranked over 800m. In what was a tactically run 1500m at the National Schools, Cooper finished a close 4th in what was a class field. Cooper was then named in the New Zealand Secondary Schools team and will travel with this team to the Australian Track and Field Championships in Adelaide in April.

Senior 4 x 100m relay - After the victory of our Junior 4 x 100m relay team earlier in the afternoon, our Senior Team completed the double also winning gold. The team of Jordan Veitch, Harry Williamson, Sacha Tahi and Hunter Scott held on in a tight finish, winning in a smart 43.47. This was a fantastic result for this group, completing the first 4 x 100m double for CBHS teams in the 50 years of the event.
