Ensuring Safety and Preparedness

Craig Dunnett —

Evacuation and Lockdown Procedures

At school today we practiced a Fire Emergency Drill. As usual we will review this drill and, if necessary, make any changes. What is of critical importance is that the boys and staff know what to do in an emergency. At assembly on Tuesday, I will provide feedback on the Fire Emergency Drill and speak with the school about our lockdown procedure. This will involve playing the lockdown alarm to the boys and describing to them what to do in a lockdown situation should it occur when they are in the school buildings or outside. If inside a building, staff and students are to seek shelter and lock and barricade doors. If outside students and staff are to leave the school as quickly as possible.

The school will communicate with parents, staff and boys using either our text alert system, email or updates on our school website (it is important to have multiple options). The school will be unlikely to have the capacity to respond to individual parents calls or emails during an emergency situation and accordingly we will be proactive in pushing messages out to our community.

A lockdown can only be concluded at the instruction of the Police.
