‘Got a Trade? Got it Made – Big Construction Tour Day

Sonia Eustace - Gateway Coordinator —

Gateway students Harry Oberg-Nordt, Matt Swain, Josh Allen, Harry Milligan and Gateway Coordinator, Mrs Eustace, all enjoyed taking part in the Big Construction Tour Day organised by BCITO late last term.

This was a fantastic opportunity for these students to gain a real insight into what is going on locally in both the residential and commercial building environments. We visited the Flooring School, Fletchers at the new Justice Precinct, Wigram Skies subdivision and Metro Glass. BCITO provided a fabulous BBQ lunch at Wigram Skies and students had the opportunity to make contacts and hear career stories from a number of experienced people from within the building and construction industry.

Throughout the tour we took part in a ‘BCITO Future Apprenticeship Photo Competition’. We all took photos throughout the day and then after the tour we uploaded the photos to Facebook and the public voted for best photo and we won!! Huge congratulations to the winner, Matt Swain with this entry:

WHAT I LEARNED ON THE BIG CONSTRUCTION TOUR

Matt Swain : "Learnt a lot on the BCITO Big Construction Tour, the scale of this new Justice Precinct building is massive and has a special design that makes it suitable to the quakes, it moves with them!"

Congratulations to Matt who won free fees for the first year of his Apprenticeship, valued at $2,000!! (Congratulations of course also to Harry Oberg-Nordt, who is the star of this photo). A big thank you to everyone from the CBHS community who voted for Matt’s photo.
