Hall Rebuild & Master Plan Approved

Nic Hill —

Construction of our new Hall will begin next month and we hope to be able to use it in the first half of next year. The Hall will hold the entire school for assemblies and other functions and it will also provide a much needed space to showcase the performing arts.

I am incredibly proud of the engagement that the wider school community has shown in wanting the best possible facilities for our boys. It has been inspiring to see the community refuse to surrender the control of the school’s destiny and the lobbying on behalf of the boys as well as the provision of expert advice and steadfast support has made this outcome a reality.

The Board of Trustees has approved the developed design for the Hall and the final version of the school’s Master Plan (both attached below). These are two significant milestones for the school. The school and school community are now driving the rebuild project and that will mean fantastic outcomes for Christchurch Boys’ High School. For example the principles by which our classrooms are designed will come from the school. The school will have spaces that are welcoming for all students and the school’s heritage and its wider cultural narrative will be recognised through areas such as the Old Boys Quad and the Waharoa.

The school’s Main Building and the Deans Farm Buildings will be repaired and refurbished and every other building on site will be replaced. Christchurch Boys’ High School will truly be a modern school with a rich heritage and our campus will serve to enhance our mission of educating fine young men towards outstanding achievement.
