Christchurch Multicultural Performance Night 2025

Lorraine Dunn —

A joint event organised by the Global Student Clubs of CBHS and CGHS, brought people together through food, culture, and celebration.

The night began with a captivating solo traditional Gujarati dance from Girls’ High, followed by a Chinese group performance from Riccarton High School.

As the performances continued, audiences were treated to everything from powerful solo acts, buzzing duos, to incredible group performances like the CGHS Samoan dance and the traditional Punjabi folk dance from the NZ Bhangara Academy. As the night progressed, the crowd buzzed with excitement and anticipation for who would come up on stage next.

The Japanese Takumi Drumming group, which showcased great passion and commitment, deservedly received overwhelming praise as they elevated the overall experience of the crowd through their mastered synchronisation skills.

Apart from the performances inside, 5 food trucks serving everything from Mediterranean to Korean cuisines filled up the quad. Crowds lined up for empanadas, tteokbokki, Korean Fried Chicken, and more, adding to the overall festive atmosphere.

The warm and festive atmosphere made up for the cold evening, as friends and families from both schools gathered around, enjoying not only the performances but also the delicious offerings from the food trucks lined up. The night was a celebration of diversity, unity, and talent. The night truly showcased the many cultures that we interact with and make up our community.
