Year 9 Ski Trips

Jacob Hawkins - Year 9 —

Year 9 student, Jacob Hawkins tells us about his experience at Mt. Hutt as part of the recent Outdoor Education trips to the ski field.

The day started early for 9KNJ, we all got to school, ready to go and we were all like: “Where are all the teachers? Are we going by ourselves? Sweet no teachers!” But that went out the window quickly as soon as we were all on the bus they showed up.

We set of all excited to get there. On the bus, we were talking and playing music, so the trip went fast. We were there with plenty of time before our lessons, but we had to finish the boring task of lining up for an hour to get our snowboards or skis and boots. We finally got through the gear fitting and finally, we all were ready for our lessons.

We had lessons for an hour, learning all the skills and the ski teacher gets to decide if you can go on the ski lift, I didn’t. We were all ready to go, but we saw Feao and somehow we had the same idea to start to throwing snow at him. He laughed so hard he fell over. Tom and I weren't allowed to go up but we didn’t get our passes taken off and lucky we didn’t because my highlight of the day was the view when you get to the top of the mountain. Miss King was showing all of us up with her impressive skill on the skis.  We were all blown away because she said she wasn’t very good, but that wasn't true.

I decided to go get some lunch with some mates. We got to the bus and thought we were the only people there but we weren't. Some of my classmates were lying down, on the top of the hill, and started throwing snowballs at us. I went to the bus to get food but I didn’t get the chance because I was just running away from getting hit by snowballs.

When I was going I saw Azury with Miss King and I convinced Azury to come up the mountain with Miss King, Hone and I because he said he was good. We got to the top and were all going down. By the time we got to the bottom we were all wondering where Azury was and at that moment he was coming down the mountain stopping and starting and he got to us and said "man that was fast" and we all started laughing.

We all had to go to the bus and the teachers were all surprised because we were all on the bus before 3:00 pm so we left early. The bus was quiet, and I think everyone had a great time. I wish we could go again!
