Community Service Day (8th March)

Friday the 8th of March will be a teacher only day and students are not expected to be at school. However on this day our Year 9 and 10 students led by our Monitor team, are being asked to participate in a community service of their choice.

The boys need to find some suitable community service work. This work is not paid and is an opportunity for them to engage with our community. There may be an option to participate in a clean up at the beach, Hagley Park or the Avon River bank which will be organised by the monitors. The boys will be provided with a form to be completed as evidence of their service for this day by their Kaitiaki teacher (see attached doc).

Community service aligns closely with the values of CBHS and we see this as a great opportunity for our students to give back to the community. We hope the boys will make the most of the day and that the experience will be a positive one.

NCEA Assessment Regulations - Mr Mike Boomer

In NCEA assessment it is crucial that students adhere carefully to the rules of assessment delegated to the school by NZQA. All senior students have received a paper copy of the Student Assessment Regulations for 2019 which covers aspects around attendance at assessments, meeting due dates, appeals and breaches of rules. Please ensure you are familiar with these to help guide your child around their assessment work this year

CBHS Sports - Mr Glenn Davis

The value of sport in a modern boys' school.

We circulated this video to the school community in September of 2018 and with a new group entering the school community and the imminent onset of winter sport it is timely to publish this again.

At Christchurch Boys' High School sport exists to promote the school’s mission and values and develop relationships and character while supporting academic achievement.

This Canadian Video serves as a reminder of the role of adults in sport.

It is important that we keep in mind that balance is better and remember that:

  1. Childhood success is not a reliable predictor of future success
  2. Early identification and specialisation is taking a toll on young people
  3. A focus on winning is coming at the expense of enjoyment and continued participation

Uniform Shop

Welcome back to the new school year. We had a busy period over January and would like to thank all the volunteers that helped. A big thank you also to those people that also helped during term time. Without you we could not run the shop.

We have both the lighter weight “jack in a sack” and also the school jackets in stock now – seems silly to suggest these but this beautiful weather won’t be with us all term. The “jack in a sack” packs down into its own pocket, so great to keep in school bags.

Shop hours are:

Tuesday 3pm - 6pm

Thursday 1pm -5pm

First Saturday of each month 10am -12pm  from the 2nd of March till the 6th April.

Second Hand Uniform:

We are always looking for good quality second hand uniform to sell. You can either donate it to us or we can sell on your behalf for a small commission. We are only able to sell current school uniform items ie: those that we are also selling new. You can drop items off to the shop when we are open or to the Bursars office.

Contact details: uniformshop@staff.cbhs.school.nz

Facebook page to keep up to date: https://www.facebook.com/cbhsuniformshop/

Email us on cbhs.ptauniformshop@gmail.com.

If you are able to help in the shop we are always grateful to have additional volunteers for a few hours a term.

We encourage you to bring in your own bags as we are trying to reduce waste.
