Jackson Cain Dominates in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA
Christchurch Boys’ High School student Jackson Cain continues to make a name for himself in the demanding world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), combining discipline, talent, and determination to achieve remarkable success on the national stage.
Over the past two and a half years, Jackson has trained under the guidance of Oceanside Jiu Jitsu, one of the country’s most respected academies. His dedication and work ethic have seen him compete across New Zealand, consistently demonstrating growth as both an athlete and martial artist.
A standout moment in Jackson’s competitive journey came in May 2025, when he secured a Silver medal at the New Zealand BJJ Nationals in Auckland. Competing in the Juvenile Men’s No-Gi / White Belt / Medium Heavyweight (-79.8kg) division, Jackson’s technical skill and tactical approach were on full display.
His competition record, tracked through Smoothcomp, speaks volumes: 17 wins, with an impressive 14 of those coming by submission. This statistic alone reflects his dominance on the mat and his ability to control and finish matches with precision.
Jackson has also expanded his skillset into MMA. Representing South Island Lee Gar, he stepped into the cage for his second MMA bout on a recent Saturday evening. Facing a highly capable 17-year-old opponent, a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. Jackson rose to the challenge and secured a first-round victory via rear naked choke. His performance earned him the "Submission of the Night" accolade, highlighting both his technical sharpness and his composure under pressure.
More than just a competitor, Jackson exemplifies the values of sportsmanship, humility, and resilience. He continues to represent both his gym and Christchurch Boys’ High School with pride, setting a powerful example for students interested in high-performance sport and combat disciplines.
With achievements like these, Jackson Cain is not only one to watch—he is already making his mark.

CBHS Duo Selected for NZ U15 Water Polo Team
Christchurch Boys’ High School is proud to announce that Jonah Teokotai and Connor Hutton have been selected to represent New Zealand U15 at the upcoming Australian State Championships this September in Canberra.
This prestigious tournament provides a valuable development platform for emerging water polo talent, offering New Zealand’s best young athletes the chance to compete against top Australian opposition. Jonah and Connor are the only two athletes selected from the South Island, highlighting both their individual dedication and the growing strength of the CBHS Water Polo program.
Their selection is a result of consistent hard work, discipline, and a passion for the sport as both boys have shown impressive commitment in training and competition. Representing New Zealand on this stage is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Christchurch Boys’ High School and its sporting community.
The experience gained in Canberra will serve as an important steppingstone as Jonah and Connor prepare to lead the CBHS Premier Water Polo team into the Trans-Tasman Cup this December.
We wish Jonah and Connor the very best in their international campaign and look forward to following their continued progress in the pool.
